More photos of today's outing
This park is located at the rim of the Barranca de Oblatos and is the starting point of a popular 4.5 km (2.7 mi) cobblestone trail from the top of the canyon to the Rio Santiago below. Near the start of the trail there is a chapel and scenic look-out area from which the visitor can see the river and canyon bottom. The trail then descends 1500 feet past native plants and more look-out points offering views of the Las Juntas hydroelectric dam and the Puente de Arcediano bridge. At the end of the trail can be found the Baños Termales de Oblatos (hot springs), signs of volcanic activity that still underlay the Guadalajara region. Some years ago these hot springs were very popular with park visitors, but unfortunately they are now out of service and it is prohibited to enter this area by the Protección Civil due to the high risk of falling rock.
