Ivan Today:

                                                                                                          May 1, 2012
I went up to the hospital to see Ivan after teaching my ESL student. He was extremely fatigued, but his fever is considerably lower, and often without requiring Tylenol. They
are not certain he has pneumonia and did another x-ray today. They also tested him for malaria and that came out negative, however the results for the test re Dengue fever will not be back for a few days.
They are using a nebulizer with oxygen to help break up the stuff filling his lungs. One nurse told Ivan his left lung sounded much better today. He says he is breathing much more comfortably but during my visit he was very weak. He cycles into different states of strength and energy throughout the day but tends to feel best in the morning. He is still enjoying a private room, and though he wants to come home, he realizes it is important to get a diagnosis (if in fact they come up with one) and to feel stronger. He also wants more treatments so his breathing continues to improve. Dr. Myhill Jones stated he has asthma.
Currently he only has energy for short stay visitors but appreciates all the notes
and expressions of concern and love.
I hope he has a reasonable sleep tonight, and will report in tomorrow.

Hello Everyone,

It is easier for me to keep folk informed about Ivan's current hospital stay using our blog.
He thought he had the flu, but by Wed. night his fever soared to 104 F and I took him in to Emerg. at our local hospital. They did many tests and so far they state he has pneumonia, a urinary infection and he is being treated for both as well as supervision to keep his fever down.
He felt encouraged today as Dr. Myhill Jones provided him with medication he breathes in that breaks up the flem.  He said he coughed up a lot, and now is breathing with more ease.

We are also wondering if he may have Dengue fever (mosquito related, subtropical) and they will test for that too. But rest is needed. He has his Kindle, his Ipod and music, and a private room. It was a scary week, but I think we will see improvements this week.

Ivan was so anxious to get his garden in, start swimming and get back into his Canadian routines he was resisting accepting this illness until it over powered him. But he is now accepting his situation and glad to get the care he needs.

We are all making sure he is comfortable and has what he needs and I will keep everyone informed on this blog hopefully with good news in the coming days.

There is no phone at this small hospital, so just email me and I can print up any greetings
