 May 23, 2012

Hello Everyone,

Although Ivan's healing has not been linear I do see improvements. He went for a 15 minute swim at our local pool today and is feeling more positive. He still needs to take it easy, and naps on and off during the day.
He has colour in his face, is a little more active each day and agrees it is slow but he is recovering.
I will post again when we all feel he is no longer vulnerable and back to his normal activities, but I think we are getting there:)

Round two. Ivan was just discharged from the hospital. Lynda is up at the hospital helping him get organized so he can come home. They did do several more tests. No particular diagnosis but the atrial fib is gone and he is back to a steady regular heart beat. He did see Dr. Wadge so that was great, as she has been following his history. Lynda is giving him the lecture about "resting" so let's hope this time he really takes it easy for a few weeks and heals.

Thanks Everyone!

Ivan just phoned at 7:30 AM May 11 to tell me his heart beat became regular at about midnight. He is hoping to see the specialist Dr. Wadge today, but is not sure she is available. He said they did give him medication to correct the arrhythmia (slow things down, his heart was beating too fast).  I will head up to bring him all his electronic toys this afternoon. He still is in a private room due to the VRE which was contracted during his stay at St. Paul's several years ago. Sadly he does not have the room he liked, with shower and bathroom but he sounded cheerful and was feeling somewhat better. He hopes this is a short but meaningful stay.

May 10

Another difficult day.  Ivan felt unwell in the afternoon and nearly passed out. He had a noticeable arrhythmia when we took his blood pressure. I suggested I call an ambulance and he didn't protest. They came really fast, and by the time we got to the hospital he had more colour on his face, but the arrhythmia was showing up on both  the screen and ECG. So he is at St. Mary's Hospital again for observation, more tests, and hopefully a diagnosis and treatment. I will keep the blog up to date with brief notes as I am exhausted.

Warmest, Evi

Ivan is delighted. He can come home today. His fever never went over 99F without tylenol for many hours and he is on a new antibiotic for the urinary tract infection.

I will pick him up at about 12:40 today after my ESL student leaves.

Let's just hope he actually takes it easy:)
