Hello Everyone,
Ivan saw his surgeon this morning. He had the drain taken out and the dressings removed, replace with bandaids. The two scars are much smaller than I expected (bye bye nipple).
The main scar is about 4 " but looks good and is healing nicely.
Dr. Goddard said they removed the centinel node (the closest one) and it was small which is usually a good sign. He hopes the lab results will come in end of this week.
Ivan continues to have no pain, some fatigue but is feeling hopeful and delighted he can resume swimming in about a week (or once the scar is well healed).
So this is good news so far!
Much love to all,
Evi

Ivan happily returns home to continue enjoying our visitors and friends who we usually spend winters with in Mexico
Ivan was surprisingly active today with minimal pain. He enjoyed several meals with our visitors who we enjoy our Mexican winters with. They have been with us prior to and following Ivan's surgery.
We have an appointment on Monday morning with Dr. Goddard (Ivan's surgeon) so it will be good to hear what he has to tell us.
Photos of Ivan, his support group, our longtime friends following another excellent meal. It's been a gorgeous summer day, full moon over the sea and now the silhouette of the mountains.

Aug. 22/2013 Yeh! Ivan's been discharged! (10 am Thursday, Aug 22)
Hello Folks,
Ivan was discharged and Joanna and Dori are en route to pick him up. He sounded good on the phone this morning and only complained of some swelling and pain in his hand.
So his hospital stay was short and sweet and he should be home by noon today (Thursday).
Details to follow when we know more.
Thanks again for all the good wishes, concern and love:)

August 21 - Ivan had the surgery early this morning and is doing great!
Hello Everyone,
Ivan had the surgery early this morning (7:30 am???) and was in the recovery room by 10 AM. The nurses said he was doing great and I went to see him in room 301 at 11 am. He was cheerful, pain free ( because the anesthetic was still in his system) and feeling quite pleased. He is in a lovely private room with a view of the sea in the new wing of our hospital (St Mary's-Sechelt).
We have no details yet about the results but at the moment we are all relieved and delighted that this surgery went so well.
I stopped in at 4 PM after work and he stated he had been walking up and down the halls, exploring our new hospital! Let's hope this recovery has no major issues that surface once the anesthetic wears off.
Lynda is visiting Ivan now and we expect by tomorrow he will see either his own doctor or the surgeon in the hospital so we get more details. We have no idea how long he will stay in the hospital, but if he continues to feel as good as today he is likely to be home very soon:)
A lot of the lab work is done in Vancouver so we may not get the important results for a week or more.
I am exhausted after a sleepless night, an early wake up and a day mixed with work and hospital visits so am about to have a nap:)
I thank everyone for the love, care and good wishes that have buoyed us up during the wait and the surgery.
Warmest Greetings to All!

Our Local Hospital
The mastectomy will be done at our local hospital, "St Mary's" in Sechelt by surgeon Dr. Goddard who has a good reputation. We both met him several weeks ago and liked him. Dr. Wadge (our local internal medicine specialist) said "he does good work."
It is great for all the Ivan fans that he will be close by as he is likely to stay in hospital a couple of days following surgery, possibly longer.
Our hospital was recently renovated and now has a new wing with lots of private rooms. (Ivan times things well:)

August 21 has been confirmed as the date for Ivan's surgery
Ivan's surgery date (Aug 21 ) was confirmed a week ago. He needs to go to Lion's Gate Hospital the day before in the late afternoon (Aug 20) to have the dye put in and the "mapping" done. He also has an appointment with the anesthetist soon.
We are expecting dear friends to visit this week and the week after. Ivan will be able to enjoy spending time with folks from Montreal and our Mexican community while he feels well.
The garden is offering us beans, strawberries, greens, peas and lots more. We are enjoying endless sunny days and Ivan has been baking fantastic pecan pies, and is in the process of making stuffed grape leaves.
We probably won't know the exact results of all until end of August but not sure. I will keep you all posted:)
Thanks for so many nice phone calls and expressions of care and concern. We all love Ivan:)
