Market
Day, The Tiangi, Thursday in Jocotepec
Even
after five winters in Mexico, the Thursday Tiangi is still a joyful morning of colour,
activity and excitement. We needed a break from all the work of settling in. So
it was great to get to town and watch the vendors set up their stalls.
It
is a pleasure to wander past spools of coloured wool, cheeses of different
shapes and flavours, and woven fabrics with intricate designs. The mercado is a
place you might find what you need, or what you don’t need but you always leave
with a treasure. We often find vegetables
we have never seen, and then rush home to Google a new recipe. Squash flower
soup is terrific but my knapsack was too full by the time I reached that stall
with bright orange flowers.
Ivan
had his 32-minute swim in the quiet empty thermal pool. We have been told
Chapala is enjoying a very warm autumn (which means perfect weather) so we are
mixing chores with a soak in the “alberca” or a visit to our favourite
restaurant, Vive Mexico.
Our
balcony now has a series of herbs and potted roses. I am practicing my Spanish once a week with
my neighbor Deb. The plan is to find a new teacher as Bette is no longer here.
The
pace of life suits us and it is great to see Ivan resting, reading and
relaxing. I just set up my shelf of
dyes, silks and am working on creating a creative workstation. I plan to do
some fiber art soon. The tropical flowers, and artful towns offer inspiration
and I have more time this season.
Hope
everyone is well and enjoying the sunny days I heard about.
Abrazos,
Evi
y Ivan
